WATER WELL - A Must for Clean Water and Construction

Water_Well

(taken on our 2011-2012 Mission Trip. Water well in another village)

COST: $14,000.00 needed to drill one (1) water well. On July 28, 2010 UN Resolution 64/292 declared clean water and sanitation a human right and acknowledged that "clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realization of all human rights. The Resolution calls upon States and international organizations to provide financial resources, help capacity-building and technology transfer to help countries, in particular developing countries, to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all." It is a MUST to drill a water well in Paliau Village at the upcoming construction site of the Library Education Center Building Project (January 2013 groundbreaking). The water well is vital for both clean water and sanitation for the villagers and to mix cement for the library construction project. It will serve two very important development initiatives. In 2008, an estimated 1.7 million people returned to their homes in Southern Sudan, according to a UN report, with numbers since rising to an estimated 2 million. Putting more strain on already strained resources, the people lack access to water and sanitation facilities. The floor plans for the Library Education Center include several bathroom facilities for future development. Research shows that clean water and soap reduces common disease by 80% and overall deaths by 40%. Documentation on building/developmental details will be provided to all donors during the drilling process and once complete. Quotation/Documentation from Drilling Company.

LOADER TRUCK - Essential for Construction and Medical Emergency Vehicle

W_Isuzu_Loader_Truck w_Loader_Truck_for_construction

COST: $15,000.00 needed for Loader Truck. A Loader Truck is necessary for the effective construction of the Library Education Center. Building materials need be brought in from Kampala, Uganda, Panyagoor, Bor Town and Juba, South Sudan, as well as petrol for the generators. Materials shipped in on the truck will include concrete bags, tools, brick maker machines, and generators. The truck will also be used to make necessary trips with village workers to the river bank (hours away by vehicle) to collect and load sand used in the concrete mix for the brick maker machine to produce concrete blocks. Without a truck, it will be difficult to build with the best quality materials available in the area, resulting in inferior materials and a structure that would last decades less. The truck will also serve a very important and necessary life-giving purpose. It will be available as a Medical Emergency Vehicle (the first ever in the village) transporting emergency patients including children, infants and expecting moms to the nearest medical facility in Bor Town @70 miles away. An almost impossible day's long journey by foot. The infant mortality rate in Southern Sudan ranks among the highest in the world due to a severe lack of medical facilities and supplies. An estimated 150 infants die in childbirth per 1000 births. Children in South Sudan are three times more likely to die than those in Northern Sudan. *We will purchase the truck from an Auto Sales Company in Kampala, Uganda, where most of our materials will be purchased. Documentation on purchasing details will be provided to all donors once completed.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES - Urgent Need for Children and Adults

w_Paliau_Clinic Women_waiting_in_clinic w_medical_center_Paliau w_girl_and_child w_Atem_uncle_no_leg w_children

(taken on our 2011-2012 Mission Trip in Paliau Village, South Sudan)

Men, women and children wait for medical help at the small clinic in the village. On our mission assessment trip there were no supplies available at all for the common cold, headache, arthritis pain, diarrhea, vomiting, etc., except what we happen to bring "by chance" on our trip. We did not anticipate well ahead of time, this being our first mission trip to Paliau Village, that the bottles of Extra Strength Tylenol, Advil Cold and Sinus, Aspirin, first aid kits, mosquito repellent that we packed in our own personal items were "miracle" drugs for the villagers. Easy over the counter medications that made a world of difference to the people. Many of the men in the village are veterans of the civil war. Uncle Gabriel (pictured above) lost his leg and is in dire need of a new prosthetic that fits properly. We were able to give him regular daily doses of Tylenol, and he had his first good night of sleep in years! Unfortunately, we also sadly witnessed the death of a young man in the cattle camp that suffered a snake bite. There was no snake bite repellent available or emergency medical vehicle available. He passed away over night. The infant mortality rate in Southern Sudan ranks among the highest in the world due to a severe lack of medical facilities and supplies.About 670,000 children under the age of five die each year from preventable diseases. Malaria, acute respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases, combined with malnutrition, are the leading causes of death. Please help us supply the villagers with as many "common" over the counter medications that we can bring on our next mission trip, scheduled for January 2013 - May 2013. There is a certified team of medical assistants in the village that run the small clinic. Monetary or material donations (Extra StrengthTylenol, Advil, Advil Cold and Sinus, Aspirin, First Aid Kits, Mosquito and Snake Repellent) are appreciated.
